TEXAS HOLDEM POKER HAND RANKINGS

A 52-card deck produces 2,598,960 different hands. Poker hands are ranked by the statistically least-probable hand, the Royal Flush, to the most statistically probable hand, a high card. If you’re playing in a live game with friends and you’re brand new to poker, print out this page for reference until you have the rankings memorized.

And if the hand goes to a showdown, there’s a little chat window where the dealer identifies which player has the best hand, what the hand was, and the size of the pot. If two or more players tie, the chat window identifies all the tying hands and how the pot was split. Royal Flush

A-K-Q-J-10 of the same suit. This is the best hand in poker. The pot is split if two or more players tie with this hand. Probability: 1 in 649,740 or 0.000154%. Wins 100% of the time.

	Straight Flush Any five cards of the same suit in consecutive rank. For example, 8-7-6-5-4 suited. Two or more players with this hand tie the hand and split the pot. Probability: 1 in 72,193 or 0.001385%. Wins 91.73% of the time.
	Four of a Kind Four cards of the same rank. The fifth card (kicker), isn’t important because there can only be one winner with this hand (the hand with the highest-ranking four of a kind). Probability: 1 in 4,165 or 0.00240%. Wins 86.27% of the time.

	Full House A pair and three of a kind. There are no ties with a full house: if two players have a full house, the hand with the highest-ranking three of a kind wins. This example is called ‘sevens full of threes.’ Probability: 1 in 694 or 0.1441%. Wins 52.74% of the time.
	Flush Five cards of the same suit. They don’t have to be in consecutive order. When two players both have a flush, the hand with the highest card wins. If they both have identical high cards, then the second-highest cards are compared, and so on. Probability: 1 in 509 or 0.1967%. Wins 46.88% of the time.
	Straight Five cards in consecutive order that are not of the same suit. An ace can be used as a high or low card (equaling one when it’s low). If two or more players have a straight, the hand with the highest card wins. If two players have identical hands, it’s a tie and the pot is split. Probability: 1 in 255 or 0.3925%. Wins 33.36% of the time.
	Three of a Kind Three cards of equal value. This hand’s also known as ‘triplets’ or ‘trips.’ The example here is called ‘trips fours.’ There can’t be a tie with a three of a kind: if two or more players have this hand, the hand with the highest-ranking trips wins. Probability: 1 in 47 or 2.1129%. Wins 33.56% of the time.
	Two Pair Two pair plus a kicker. If two players have this hand, the highest-ranked pair wins. If the two players’ highest-ranked pairs are identical, the second pair determines the winner. If two players’ two set of pairs are the same, the highest-ranked kicker wins. If two players have the same pairs and kicker, there is a tie and the pot is split. Probability: 1 in 21 or 4.7539%. Wins 8.92% of the time.
	One Pair Two cards of the same rank plus three unrelated cards. If two or more players have a single pair, the hand with the highest-ranked pair wins. If two players have identically ranked pairs, the hand with the highest kicker wins. If two players have identical pairs, the highest-ranked kicker wins, and so on. If two players have identical hands, there is a tie and the pot is split. Probability: 1 in 2.3665 or 42.2569%. Wins 1.67% of the time.
	High Card This hand is made up of five unrelated cards that aren’t of the same suit, rank, or sequence. If everyone has this hand, the hand with the highest card wins. If two or more players have the same high card, the second-highest card wins, and so on. If two or more players have the same hands, there is a tie and the pot is split. Probability: 1 in 1.9953 or 50.1177%. Wins 0.01% of the time.
